Bentley is beta-testing MicroStation V5 on the Power Macintosh and will offer an upgrade program for users that want to run computer-aided design applications on a Mac or Power Mac Existing.
As we know, AutoCAD can run on Linux under Wine or Citrix, but this time I’ll show you a tool that can be an inexpensive solution for Linux, Windows or Mac.
And by that time Apple may have 3 million Mac CAD users worldwide, or at the very least somewhere north of 1.5 million. Bottom line: if you want to run Microstation on a Mac, go out and get. QCad does many things almost in the same dynamics like AutoCAD, which helps reduce the learning curve, although it doesn’t do everything. Generally, it allows users do what’s most often used in AutoCAD such as:

- In addition there is an extension called CAD Expert, which facilitates the creation of special output formats such as G-Code and HP / GL

Just $ 60 per license, then, for a company wishing 20 licenses their cost can be $ 308, what would be $ 15 for each one, and in case of an educational institution, with the same amount ($308), it can get unlimited licenses.

Drawbacks
- One of its major disadvantages is that it can only edit dxf files, which would imply that it should be combined with TrueConvert in order to operate with files produced by AutoCAD, including recent dxf formats.
- It’s is only developed for 2D; for 3D, it has an isometric projection known as pseudo 3D. For drawings that are listed as examples, isn’t so bad.
Conclusion
In my opinion, it is the best offer I’ve seen as an AutoCAD alternative with a price less than $ 100, though, an investment for an IntelliCAD product could be a better choice.
It can be a solution to run on netbooks or for an educational institution.
